by Francesca Sebastian, Director of Events
Welcome to my world of creating a unique experience for anyone that has a like-minded passion for leadership in healthcare. Emerging Health Leaders consistently supports me as a Director of Events to seek the best topic, the best speaker and the best learning environment!
My ultimate goal is to bring all of us together, to open the line of communication through multiple set times so we can learn and grow as individuals for the betterment of our workplace and our community. Healthcare needs us, it needs our commitment to be change agents and leaders!
Here are 5 fun and important facts of #ehlevents
- Brainstorm Time!
As a director of events, the main goal is to ensure a successful event for our members and the public that find interest in our organization. Emerging Health Leaders of Edmonton meets every month as a group and when needed to ensure members of the board feel supported for the projects on the go!
A brainstorming session is key to bring ideas forward, get the board’s opinion but most importantly, make good common decisions on the details of those events. Is this the right time? Can we cover this topic on demand? Who presents? Who wants to be part of a subcommittee to make this a reality? Teamwork is key here.
- Finding speakers
Research and connecting with others is an important part of this journey. We want to keep things interesting and offer a great time learning during an #ehlevent. We will often start conversations with high profiles on linkedin targeting a specific to broad topic. Who is THE expert that would be willing to share their knowledge with a non-profit organization and eager to learn members?
We are pleased to know that many great mentors, business owners, motivational speakers, teachers, managers, directors, etc. have expressed interest in sharing their story, their knowledge and give the greatest of tips and tricks with our audience.
This time around, I found a former teacher of mine that gave the best ethics classes. Klay Dyer agreed to speak for one of our events!! I couldn’t be more excited to share to the world his views on a highly productive team and how to establish this environment within a workplace. - Getting it right
Let’s get to work! Many of us boards of Directors are already starting to prepare for this event.
- We put together a presentation to introduce the speaker and Emerging Health Leaders and provide information on how to become members of EHL Edmonton.
- We confirm all details of the event as a team. From time to venue to important topics to cover with speakers, all is thought through.
- We organize a venue or platform to welcome attendees.
- We put together a marketing plan.
- Marketing & Promotion
And The Best Marketing Team in town gets the ball rolling! We gather many information about the details of the event, a Bio of the speaker or speakers for the upcoming event and tell the story!
Social Media is a powerful tool to promote our events coming up. We can share news, how to register for our events and what to expect. In this case, we want everyone to know who Klay is and what will be discussed!
- The big night out!
We are ready! On February 22, 2021, we are hosting our next event with the Emerging Health Leaders. Our guest speaker is Klay Dyer. Here is what you need to know!
Klay Dyer comes from the academic world, teaching students about the importance of a good business, a well run business and the ethics surrounding most work environments. He left academic teaching in 2011 where he became a full time writer, grant writer and speaker for businesses that needed his help.
I remember my ethics class so well! Klay was at the front of the room, occupying every inch of that front space speaking with passion, telling stories of his past experiences with teams and engaging all of us students as we came to realization of his important points he wanted us to remember. It followed me through my years as a student and through my career. I often think of tips and tricks on a good, productive and friendly team within a workplace and what I need to do to make it happen.
For this upcoming event “Leadership, Communication and Culture”, be ready to hear many true life team experiences, be ready to take notes and learn about how to overcome some of the most challenging situations that a team member at work will be facing. Be the one that promotes well being at work, engage in leadership, communicate better and push for a one of a kind culture!
